Frequently Asked Questions
What does a breastfeeding counselor do?
A Breastfeeding Counselor assists
women who are wanting to breastfeed. You may be working with a
mother in late pregnancy to identify potential problems, with
women who have newborns and are experiencing difficulties, or
with women with older babies or children.
A Breastfeeding Counselor will encounter a range of problems and
challenges that may include:
women with positioning problems, pain on
breastfeeding or some of the common breastfeeding problems such as
thrush, engorgement and mastitis
women who are wanting to wean their babies from
breastfeeding to other alternatives
women who want to feed an adopted baby
women who are trying to increase their milk supply
women who wish to continue breastfeeding when they
are pregnant with another child
There are a whole host of situations that a Breastfeeding
Counselor will come across. As a Childbirth International Breastfeeding
Counselor you will gain knowledge and skills in helping women through
these problems, and also accumulate a comprehensive list of resources
for helping parents when their problems are more complicated than you
can assist with.
"Having such experienced doulas to discuss all sorts
of birth topics was great! I now feel confident & prepared
to perform my tasks as a labor doula because of this course.
Thanks to you all!" Jeanne, Alabama
