Looking for places to network with other doulas?
A variety of email lists and online discussion forums exist for doulas,
childbirth educators and
breastfeeding counselors to network. These can be an excellent place to explore topics, ask questions and gain knowledge.
An email list works by sending all list members a copy of every email that is posted. If you send an email to the list it will then be automatically distributed to other list members. Some email lists are for specific regions, while others cover a wider area. Childbirth International students have their own list which is only available to students and graduates and has
nearly 1,000 members.
A discussion forum is a little different. To access a forum you log on to the internet and create a username and password. You can then read the forum which is usually sorted by threads, or discussion topics. To read the latest posts you need to log on to the forum through the internet.
Doula list on Yahoo Groups
The doula list on Yahoogroups has almost 2,000 doulas worldwide as list
members. This is the most comprehensive doula list on the internet. The list is
owned by Childbirth International and encourages lively debate about a variety of issues that impact doulas. There are no restrictions on the topics, provided they are relevant to doulas. Advertisements are not allowed, unless they are promoting training (any organization may promote training) or conferences. Normal list etiquette of respect for others and no flaming apply.
To subscribe to the list, send an email to:
doula-subscribe@yahogroups.com.
ChildbirthEd list on Yahoo Groups
Like the Doula list, the ChildbirthEd group is monitored by Childbirth International. This list is for childbirth educators to exchange teaching ideas and explore issues related to childbirth education classes. The same guidelines apply as per the doula list.
